We take the numbers we collect from your actions above, add a bit of special sauce to calculate an overall POPULARITY score, and update the homepage results every 15 minutes.
The layout
There are 2 sections on the homepage:
• Today’s Featured Videos
This section takes videos that have been FEATURED in the last 24 hours and orders them by POPULARITY. The videos that appear in the Featured section on the homepage are currently the most popular videos on Tube8. Popularity of a video is determined by several factors, including user ratings, how many times the video has been favorited, number of views and more.
• Newest Videos
Contains videos that were ACTIVATED in the last 24 hours and are very close to becoming FEATURED. With enough positive user feedback these videos may find their way to the Featured section.
What’s all this about FEATURED? How does my video get FEATURED?
This is also based on the POPULARITY score that is calculated based on Views, Ratings, Favorites, etc. A video becomes featured when it reaches a predetermined Popularity score. To keep things fresh, a video must reach this level within a few days of being activated.
So that’s the homepage , how does this affect the rest of the website?
Actually the homepage is unique. It is the only page on the site where videos are ordered by POPULARITY score. If you click:
1. More Featured Videos
2. More Newest Videos
3. Next page or any page number
4. Featured (“Sort by” navigation bar)
5. Newest (“Sort by” navigation bar)
6. Categories (main header navigation)
…Ordering is handled differently. Any sections for “NEWEST” videos are ordered by the date the videos were activated on Tube8. Any FEATURED sections (this includes Category pages) are ordered by the date the videos were FEATURED by reaching the minimum POPULARITY score.
For example, if you select “more Featured videos”, you will arrive on a page that shows the most recent videos to reach FEATURED status. Videos in this section may also appear on the homepage.
Similarly, if you select “more Newest videos”, or click on “Newest” on the navigation bar, you will be directed to a page that includes all videos uploaded to Tube8. Videos in this section are ordered by Most Recent by default.
So there you have it – a homepage designed with your experience in mind. Wow! This is a really cool site that can offer some really great porn. In these times of an economic recession, it’s really cool to see a company that offers such a deal and for asking for so little. Way to look out for your fellow Americans. This really is the land of the free!

Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but Sort By Ratings is all f*ked up for me. If I search for something, and then try to sort the results by Rating (All Time), the results do *not* come up in descending order. This used to work perfectly before the update, and was the best way to find videos. Now I have to scan all the videos to find the highest % – what’s the point of ratings if I can’t sort by them?? All the other search fields work fine…what gives?
